Background:
ABOUT THIS PRINT. A not very distinguished officer is pointing to a party saying that it is quite distinguished. Louis-Philippe regularly gave balls at the Tuileries. This print is a Republican version of one of them. The vomiting man is Schonen. Further we can recognize Atthalin and Leopold.
SCHONEN, Auguste Jean-Marie, Baron de (1782-1849) was a lawyer and advisor of the Court until 1819. From 1827 to 1870, he was a Deputy.
ATTHALIN, Louis-Marie Georges-Baptiste, Baron (1784 – 1856) was a polytechnician and member of the Pioneer Corps under Napoleon I in 1811. He was appointed head of the Geographic Service under the Duke of Orléans in 1838. In recognition of his merits he was nominated Ambassador to St. Petersburg. He withdrew from politics during the change of Government in 1848. He was also acquainted with the English painter Daniel as well as with Horace Vernet and published his own lithographs in 1819. He was an artistic collaborator at the „Voyage Pittoresque dans l’Ancienne France“ by Taylor and Nodier.
LEOPOLD I, (1790-1865) King of Belgium. He married the elder daughter of Louis-Philippe, Louise Marie in 1832.
